To Prime Or
Not To Prime?
- Use a stain blocking Primer if your wall has ink, crayon or water stains - this prevents those marks from bleeding through.
- Use a tinted primer (tinted with the same color of your wall choice) if you are planning to repaint a wall with a contrasting color.
- Always Prime drywall, new wood, unevenly painted surfaces, stripped or any other "raw" surfaces.
- Be sure to Match Primer to Paint - Water based paint needs water based primer. Alkyd primer for alkyd paint.
Determining if your wall needs a primer is important to prevent do over projects. Here are 4 simple guidelines to apply to your project to determine if you need to start with a primer first.
