Professional secrets that can change the look and feel of your room just by manipulating the window treatment itself.
If you want to fade a window out - use curtains that are the same color as the wall color. The window will meld into the wall this way.
Need to make the window appear shorter? Cover the top of the window with a valance this will cover approximately 1/3 of your window which will make it appear smaller than it really is.
Need to widen the window? Buy rods that extend beyond the window's frame and hang the curtains accordingly. Be sure you are able to keep the window frame covered when the curtains are open.
Need to make the window appear taller? Attach your curtain rod close to the ceiling above the window then hang the drapes from ceiling to floor. Or, you can install your curtain rod a few inches above the window and cover up the extra wall space with a valance.
Is your window off center? Tie the curtain to one side, the largest wall side. This bulk of beautiful fabric will distract the eye from the imbalance that exists by the placement of the window.
Windows are so important to the visual health of every room in your home yet often many people neglect the wonderful design expressions that can be created by putting on the final finish of a well planned window treatment.
