The Meaning of Color - in Design
Understanding the meaning of Color is a stand alone science so it's best to limit the information to just a few of the psychological affects of color and how to apply them to your room painting projects.
Just as light creates mood so too, with paint colors. In fact, it is considered to be the most effective medium to alter the appearance of a room. And, the most inexpensive! Dramatic Redesign changes can be made to any room just be changing up your wall colors.
The meaning of color can be broken into 2 main categories of color. These are Warm and Cool colors. Think of the warm colors as "fire" colors; reds, yellow, orange and any combinations thereof. While the Cool colors can be remembered as the "ice" colors: blues, greens and violets.
Now move to the provocative Moods created by your choice of paint colors. Remember, the experience of color is more subconscious than a literal awareness so it's important to note the significance of color in the historical applications found in the art world. Painters throughout the ages have always used color to provoke an emotional experience.
